Great article. I have always been into fitness, however that doesn’t mean I haven’t fallen off the wagon. There have been times I just felt unhealthy. In High School I weighed 185 at 6’ tall. Played football and considered light for a lineman. In college I got into bodybuilding and at LSU I was bigger than some of the players on the football team.

In my twenties I competed nationally in bodybuilding working up tot he heavy weight class. Off season I was 260 and would diet down to 210.

In my thirties, my wife had our daughter and I was working a lot to get ahead and pay the bills but still managed to get in the gym three to four days a week. I moved to CA and found Mountain Biking and started racing and eventually racing on a team in both Mountain Biking and Road Racing. I did well and often raced at above 200 lbs.

In my 40’s I started running and hiking. At 49 I separated from my wife and was fighting anxiety and depression. I dove back into lifting weights and running with a vengeance. I did half marathon and 10k’s. I was actually in the best shape of of my life in my 50’s.

Now in my early 60’s and weight doesn’t come off like it used to. Metabolism slows. Testosterone decreases. And losing five pound is difficult. I would like to lose 10 pounds. Been trying to loose that weigh for five months. Still not there and I run 2-3 days a week and lifted 3-4 days a week and have used intermittent fasting. It’s a struggle for sure. Good luck to everyone trying their best. The struggle is worth it in the end. It certainly is a life style and mind set.
