It’s always sad when you see a person who you believe has come so far and still has so much to live for say good bye before their time. To chose death over life.

I had a roommate. Former Marine and Navel helicopter pilot, photographer, passionate hiker and attorney with a beautiful twenty year old daughter and plenty of friends who came to me and said he had thoughts of suicide.

I thought it was a momentary depression from breaking up with his girlfriend. I had a long talk with him and at one point thought he was all better. A month later he was gone. He went to a local park and took his life. For a long time I blamed myself. That I didn’t say enough or the right things to convince him to keep on living.

Here is an example of a beautiful person who was clearly loved by others, respected and yet believed the alternative was a better place to be.

My prayers and heart goes out to her family, friends and all those who struggle with identity and depression. I believe life is worth living and I hope that anyone who considers suicide to reach out to someone for help, to remember that you do have value, that you are loved and that people want you to remain in there lives.
