So I am in my 60's and have owned many brands. Have a automotive specific business. You talk about people out of the avg performance range. There is more to it than that, the automotive education of the owner, general maintenance performed, care and treatment of the car and location of the owner will impact the abuse of the vehicle.
By far from my experience GM vehicles performed the worse followed by Dodge/Chrysler. I also want to note that I have owned three Toyota Tundra's and 2 Lexus (ex. Wife). All vehicles received oil changes every 3-5000 miles and we're regularly washed and cleaned as well as inspected. Some vehicles were harder on specific parts than others. Tundra's have undersized brakes so I replaced pads and rotors often. I sold my last Tundra at 240,000 miles.
Now it just happens that I have 5 Fords of various models. 3 are classic with one a Shelby. The other is a 2016 Explorer which has been very reliable 120,000 mile and a 22 F-150 Tremor which has been good overall with 34,000 miles.
So I would call this article misleading and lacking the information needed to make a clear judgement.
