You are correct that being consistent in your training is the key. After college I moved to upstate NY. The first thing I did was find a gym to work out at. It was 35 miles from my apartment. I also had two jobs at the time. At the gym I met people, made friends, and also eventually met the person that became my first wife.

For many the gym is a refuge, a place where you can forget your problems, focus on yourself and become addicted to feeling healthy and fit and watch your body change before your eyes.

For those who are not into fitness there will always be one excuse or another.
